Flashcards World is a free spaced-repetition flashcard app for web, iOS, and Android. It uses the FSRS algorithm to schedule each card right before you would forget it, so every study minute is spent on the cards you actually need to review.
Learn smarter, remember longer.
Spaced repetition helps you learn 2x faster and remember longer. Free on web, iOS, and Android — even offline.
Why do we forget what we study?
Because memories fade. We use Spaced Repetition to test you exactly when you're about to forget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Flashcards World.
General
Web (any modern browser), native iOS (iPhone + iPad), and native Android (phones + tablets). Your decks and review progress sync across all three so you can study on whichever device is nearest.
Yes — the iOS and Android apps are offline-first. You can create cards, study, and review without internet; when you reconnect, the app syncs progress to your other devices automatically.
Yes — Flashcards World is free on the web with unlimited flashcards, spaced repetition, 100,000+ ready-made sets, cross-device sync, and no ads. The iOS and Android apps add optional in-app extras (AI card generation, HD voice) for power users.
No — you can create cards and study without an account. Signing in (free) only unlocks cross-device sync and lets you publish public sets.
Your decks are stored locally on each device first and only sync to our servers if you are signed in. We never sell your data, never train AI models on your decks without explicit consent, and you can export or delete everything at any time. See the privacy policy for details.
Features
Flashcards World uses FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), an open-source algorithm that targets a chosen retention level — 90% by default. After each card you rate recall as Again, Hard, Good, or Easy, and the next interval expands or contracts based on how the algorithm models your memory curve.
Yes — cards support text, high-resolution images, recorded audio, and text-to-speech in dozens of languages (including HD voice on the mobile apps). Useful for vocabulary, anatomy, pronunciation, music, and any subject where sound or visuals matter.
Five modes: classic flip (tap to reveal), multiple choice, writing (type the answer), drawing (sketch the answer — great for kanji, anatomy, formulas), and audio review (eyes-free for commutes and workouts).
Yes — the mobile apps include AI-assisted card generation. Paste a topic, a textbook chapter, or a PDF and the AI drafts flashcards you can then edit. Studying itself is always algorithmic (FSRS), not generative — your reviews are deterministic, not dependent on an LLM.
Yes — import from Anki (.apkg), Quizlet, CSV, and Excel (.xlsx). Existing scheduling state from Anki is preserved on import so you do not lose your review progress.
How We Compare
Both use spaced repetition (Flashcards World uses FSRS, the modern algorithm; Anki uses SM-2 by default, FSRS as an option). Flashcards World is friendlier out of the box — five built-in study modes (Anki has flip only by default), AI card generation, and a polished mobile experience. Anki is more customizable for power users via add-ons; Flashcards World is closer to a turnkey app.
Flashcards World is offline-first, has actual spaced repetition (FSRS) on free accounts, and is ad-free on the web. Quizlet gates its SRS-style "Learn" mode behind a paid plan and shows ads to free users. Both have large public-deck libraries; ours is searchable without a sign-in.
