Account Management
Manage your Flashcards World account: sign up, sign in with Google or Apple, update your profile, switch devices, and delete your account with full data removal instructions.
Your Flashcards World account is the key to syncing your data across devices, accessing the content library, and sharing sets with others. This guide covers everything from creating your account to deleting it, along with tips for managing your profile and keeping your account secure.
Creating an Account
Setting up a Flashcards World account takes less than a minute.
Sign-Up Options
Flashcards World offers several ways to create an account:
- Google Sign-In -- Tap "Sign in with Google" and select your Google account. This is the fastest option if you already have a Google account.
- Apple Sign-In -- Tap "Sign in with Apple" and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password. Available on iOS, macOS, and the web.
- Email and password -- Enter your email address and choose a password. You may need to verify your email address before your account is fully activated.
Which Method Should You Choose?
- Google or Apple Sign-In is recommended for most users. It is faster, you do not need to remember a separate password, and account recovery is handled by Google or Apple.
- Email and password gives you a standalone account that is not tied to any third-party service. Choose this if you prefer to keep your Flashcards World account separate.
Regardless of which method you choose, your account works identically across all platforms (web, iOS, and Android).
Signing In
On Mobile (iOS and Android)
- Open Flashcards World.
- Tap Sign In on the welcome screen or in the settings menu.
- Choose your sign-in method (Google, Apple, or email).
- Authenticate and you are in. Your data will begin syncing from the cloud immediately.
On the Web
- Open the Flashcards World web app in your browser.
- Click Sign In in the navigation bar.
- Choose your sign-in method and authenticate.
- Your sets and progress will load from the cloud.
Signing In on Multiple Devices
You can sign in to Flashcards World on as many devices as you want using the same account. There is no device limit. All your sets, cards, and study progress will sync automatically across every device where you are signed in.
Managing Your Profile
Viewing Your Account Information
- On mobile: Navigate to Settings to see your account details, including your email address and sign-in method.
- On the web: Click on your Account Card or profile section in the top navigation to view your account information.
Changing Your Email or Password
- If you signed in with Google or Apple, your email and password are managed by those services. To change them, update your Google or Apple account settings directly.
- If you signed in with email and password, you can change your password through the app's settings or by using the "Forgot Password" flow on the sign-in screen.
Using Flashcards World Without an Account
You do not need an account to use Flashcards World's core features. Without an account, you can:
- Create sets and add cards.
- Study using all four study modes (Flashcards, Multiple Choice, Writing, Match List).
- Use spaced repetition for smart review scheduling.
- Work fully offline.
However, without an account you will miss out on:
- Cloud sync -- Your data stays only on the device where you created it. If you lose or replace your device, your data is gone.
- Cross-device access -- No syncing between your phone, tablet, and computer.
- QR code sharing -- You need an account to generate and share QR codes.
- Content library -- The premade set library requires an account.
For the best experience, we recommend creating a free account.
Switching Devices
Whether you are upgrading your phone, adding a new tablet, or switching from Android to iOS, your Flashcards World data travels with you.
Moving to a New Device
- Sign in on your new device using the same account (Google, Apple, or email).
- Wait for sync to complete. Your entire collection will download from the cloud. For large collections, this may take a minute.
- Verify your data. Open a few sets to confirm that all your cards and progress are present.
- Continue studying. Your spaced repetition schedule and study history carry over seamlessly.
Switching Platforms
Flashcards World supports cross-platform sync between web, iOS, and Android. You can switch from an iPhone to an Android phone (or vice versa) without losing any data. Just sign in with the same account on the new platform.
Retiring an Old Device
When you stop using a device, you do not need to do anything special in Flashcards World. Your data lives in the cloud, and the local copy on the old device has no effect on your account. If you are wiping or selling the device, simply uninstall the app or sign out first.
Account Security
Keeping Your Account Safe
- Use a strong, unique password if you signed up with email and password. Avoid reusing passwords from other services.
- Enable two-factor authentication on your Google or Apple account if you use those for sign-in. This adds an extra layer of security to your Flashcards World account as well.
- Sign out on shared devices. If you use Flashcards World on a public or shared computer, always sign out when you are finished.
- Do not share your credentials. If you want to share flashcards with someone, use the QR code sharing feature instead of sharing your account login.
What If I Forget My Password?
- Google or Apple Sign-In: Use Google's or Apple's account recovery process.
- Email and password: Tap "Forgot Password" on the sign-in screen. A password reset link will be sent to your registered email address. Check your spam folder if you do not see it within a few minutes.
Deleting Your Account
If you decide to stop using Flashcards World, you can delete your account and all associated cloud data.
How to Delete Your Account
On the Web
- Sign in to the Flashcards World web app.
- Click on your Account Card in the navigation or profile section.
- Select Delete Account.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
On Mobile (iOS and Android)
- Open Flashcards World.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the settings screen.
- Tap the Delete Account option (it is the last item in the list).
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
What Happens When You Delete Your Account
- Cloud data is permanently removed. All your flashcard sets, cards, study progress, and account information stored in the cloud are deleted. This action cannot be undone.
- Local data remains. Deleting your account does not automatically remove the data stored locally on your device. Your locally saved sets will remain on the device until you uninstall the app or manually clear its data.
- You will be signed out. After deletion, you will be signed out on all devices.
Before You Delete: Recommended Steps
- Export your data. If you want to keep a copy of your flashcards, export your sets to CSV before deleting your account. This way, you can re-import them later if you change your mind.
- Check all devices. Remember that account deletion removes cloud data only. If you want a complete removal, uninstall the app on all devices as well.
- Consider signing out instead. If you just want a break from the app, you can sign out without deleting your account. Your data will remain safely in the cloud for when you return.
Can I Reactivate a Deleted Account?
No. Once an account is deleted, the data cannot be recovered. If you want to use Flashcards World again after deletion, you will need to create a new account and start fresh (or re-import from a CSV backup).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my account free?
Creating a Flashcards World account is free. A free account gives you access to cloud sync, the content library, QR sharing, and all study modes.
Can I merge two accounts?
Account merging is not currently supported. If you have data in two separate accounts, you can export sets from one account and import them into the other.
Does deleting the app delete my account?
No. Uninstalling the Flashcards World app only removes the app and its local data from your device. Your account and cloud data remain intact. You can sign back in on any device to access your data. To fully delete your account and cloud data, follow the account deletion steps above.
I signed in but my data is missing. What should I do?
- Check that you are using the correct sign-in method. If you originally signed in with Google, signing in with email using the same address creates a separate account. Make sure you are using the same method you used when you first created your account.
- Wait for sync to complete. If you just signed in on a new device, give the app a few moments to download your data from the cloud.
- Check your internet connection. Sync requires an active internet connection. See our troubleshooting guide for more help.
